Our Land
Pesticide-free. Creek-fed. Proven by over a century of stewardship.
“We don’t just work this land. We belong to it.”
Preserving the 31 Quarter Circle brand begins with stewardship. DeSpain’s cattle graze on Eastern Washington land that is not treated with pesticides. The pastures have always been used for hay and grazing by the family for over 130 years.
Using a continuous grazing system where the cattle are rotated in and out of paddocks, cattle grazing after hay has been harvested allows natural fertilizer to be put back into the ground for the next growing season. All pastureland has year-round running creeks and is sub-irrigated, resulting in the most natural grazing conditions and healthy high weight gain available anywhere in the US.
What Makes This Land Special
Natural advantages, cultivated over generations
Year-Round Running Creeks
Every pasture on our land is fed by natural creeks that flow through all four seasons, providing clean, reliable water for livestock.
Sub-Irrigated Pastureland
A high water table naturally irrigates our meadows from below, producing consistently lush, nutrient-rich forage without pumps or sprinklers.
Pesticide-Free
Our land thrives the way nature intended, supporting healthy ecosystems and safe forage.
Rotational Grazing System
Cattle are rotated in and out of paddocks so we don't graze down the grasses too low helping with quicker regrowth, we Fall graze fields that were cut for hay. The cattle drop natural fertilizer back into the ground for the next growing season.
Mixed Meadow Grasses
Our pastures support a diverse mix of timothy, meadow grasses, and native species, producing varied and nutritious forage throughout the growing season.
Healthy, High Weight Gain
Cattle grazing our pastures consistently achieve above-average weight gain, a direct result of the nutrient-dense forage our land naturally produces.
